If you think the only thing you are losing when you gamble is your money, you could be way off track and wind up losing much more than you ever intended. Like any other vice or habit, when gambling becomes an addiction you are going to have severe repercussions that can dramatically alter your life. If you don’t think you can lose more than your money, consider some of the other things in your life that could be affected.

If you continue to gamble beyond what you can afford, you put your financial health at risk. At first you may simply max out your credit cards; however, there are known addicts that have actually mortgaged their home and took out cash advance loans on their cars. Is it luck or skill?

Some people like to play games simply for fun while others play to make money. This difference is often what makes people choose games of skill instead of games of luck. Game that are solely based on luck are a lot of fun; however, it is hard to find a way to improve the odds, they are what they are and you simply have to hope it is your lucky day. On the other hand, games of skill are games you can improve your odds at by practicing and following other people’s tips. The choice is one that each person has to make for themselves.

Most of the games of luck are based on number selection, color choice or are based on random generators like slots. Keno, slots and roulette are all games of luck as is Bingo. These games are great fun and you can win money playing them; however, there isn’t anything you can do to improve your winnings; however, there are players who believe that you can alter luck by watching for patterns and so forth. This has not been proven but it could work. The bottom line on these games is that there aren’t any skills you can improve in order to increase your winnings. (more…)

Going over the top

No matter what the thoughts are on gambling being good or bad there are always going to be those who will go over the top in making the practice seem like the worst of the worst things that people can do. There are also those who play it up to be a whole lot better than what it really is. Where is the happy medium? Where is the truth in all of this? People can make up their own minds when presented with facts.

The days of everyone deciding things for themselves and others being ok with it seem to be long gone. There was once a time when everyone was entitled to their opinion without fear of major backlash. These days are long past but even though most cannot speak their mind without backlash, opinions based on truth are still there. (more…)
